Do you want to develop websites and create computer games?

WEB PROGRAMMING & DESIGN (WPD)
offers the opportunity to:
• develop actual websites.
• learn web programming.
• earn academic and college credit.

Computer Programming

Through a combination of individual and group assignments, hands-on projects, and job placements, students enrolled in WPD will begin developing basic web design and development skills.

As they progress through the program, students will learn about (X)HTML, JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Dynamic HTML (DHTML), and XML. In addition, they will use a variety of applications to build and test their web sites, including Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks and Flash CS4.

Examples of topics we will cover as part of the curriculum include ( but are not necessarily limited to):

  • Web page and web site design
  • Working with web graphics (Adobe Photoshop CS4)
  • Developing web animations (Adobe Flash CS4)
  • Building web sites with the web page editor Adobe Dreamweaver CS4
  • Incorporating CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) into your site
  • Building dynamic web sites with PHP (a popular open-source web programming language)
  • Integrating JavaScript with XHTML
  • Creating and using XML documents

The Web Programming & Design curriculum is designed to prepare students for internships, advanced study or careers in such fields as Graphic Arts, Interactive Media Design or Multimedia and Visual Communication.

Online Session
:  This session will allow you to take the Web Programming and Design portion of the curriculum online.  The class starts at the beginning – HTML coding including an introduction to JavaScript, DHTML and XML.  Other software used in Web Site Design including Dreamweaver and Flash is also available for eligible students.   Communication is through e-mail and assignments are given via a web site.  You will come to the Career-Tech Center once a month for testing and to meet with the instructor.

This is a one-semester class and if you successfully complete the required modules and assignments, you can earn 1.5 credits.  A second semester is available to eligible students who can then earn another 1.5 credits.  This is a good option for students who have been put on a wait list for the Center-based program.
