Precision Machining Technology is a one- or two-year program designed to provide students with entry level skills for career opportunities in the machine tool field. The students will gain technical knowledge and skill in the set-up and operation of the vertical milling machine, engine lathes, surface grinders, EDM machines, drill presses, band saws, and other support equipment. In addition, the student will receive varied instruction in safety, measuring, shop math, inspection and metallurgy. Students will learn entry-level skills in the operation and programming of CMM, lathes, CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled Machines) and milling machines. Both laboratory and project-based learning will be used extensively. Work-site experiences will be incorporated in the form of field trips, shadowing and part-time employment, as opportunities are available. Students will develop important team skills necessary for employment and advancement and will have the opportunity to examine options in machining. It is recommended (but not required) that students planning to enter the P.M.T. program take related classes at their home school such as drafting, shop, trigonometry, or metals. This is a TBAISD program housed at the M-TEC facility.
