Our mission is to provide learning experiences that integrate academics
into the technical programs. Students in the career-technical programs are provided with support in technical reading, writing and math; career preparation skills (resumes, letters of introduction, etc.); technology and computer skills; presentation skills, and the development of working and presentation portfolios.

Using three ACT WorkKeys tests (Reading for Information, Locating Information, and Applied Mathematics), all entering students' basic skills are assessed. These tests are used, in part, to determine a student's ability to be successful in the technical program and in a specific job or occupational field. More and more employers across the nation are asking for ACT WorkKeys skill assessment. More than 3,000 unique job titles have been profiled to determine the specific skill levels required for these jobs. Once a student's skill levels have been determined, instructors and support staff work with him/her to increase the skill levels in these academic areas and provide the student with the required skills for the job or occupation.

Additional information regarding the ACT WorkKeys may be obtained at www.act.org/workkeys/. ACT WorkKeys may be used as an alternative means to meet the criteria for the Michigan Merit Award of $2,500. For more information about this, visit the Michigan Department of Education website at www.meritaward.state.mi.us/.

Academic curriculum experts and instructors in all technical programs have been involved in a multi-year project in which technical curriculum is aligned to Michigan Curriculum Framework, national and state industry standards, and the Michigan Career Preparation standards. Students in these programs will encounter a curriculum that is seamless; academic, career preparation, and technical strands will be tightly woven.

Students enrolled in any of the three academies (Automotive Technology, Information Technology, and Manufacturing Technology) receive academic instruction in one or more of the following academic areas: economics, English, science, and math.
